An Atlas of Evidence-Based Psychotherapies

Mapping Unique Interventions and Their Manuals
Across Six Severe Mental Disorders

An interactive companion to a systematic mapping of psychological interventions across six severe mental disorders. Trials were drawn from six published network meta-analyses; their psychological intervention arms were then grouped into macro-families and consolidated into unique interventions based on shared progenitor manuals.

How the atlas was built

For each of the six severe mental disorders, we selected one published network meta-analysis (NMA) — listed at the bottom of this page — and from it extracted all included randomized controlled trials. Within each trial, we then identified all active psychological intervention arms (arms containing at least one psychological component, delivered consistently per protocol; treatment-as-usual and non-psychological comparators were excluded).

Independent pairs of researchers assigned each intervention to one or more macro-families based on its theoretical background (e.g., CBT, psychodynamic, DBT). Interventions within the same macro-family and disorder that referenced the same protocol or could be traced to a common progenitor manual were then consolidated into a single unique intervention. Where substantial modifications were described, the intervention was recorded as a separate unique intervention with its adaptation type noted.
